BMCB Retreat
By Heather Handl
The annual BMCB retreat was held at the Southwest Research Station during the
weekend of Sept 20-22. Following the Friday evening talks delivered by faculty
from both the MCB and Biochem programs, a poster session was held giving students
a chance to present their work. The poster session kicked off the Friday evening
festivities, which continued late into the evening. Saturday morning was filled
with more research talks. After lunch, attendees had time to relax and enjoy
the surroundings of the Research Station. Many people took this opportunity
to take a hike or explore the area. After dinner, the keynote speech was delivered
by Marv Wickens, our guest from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. This was
followed by another poster session and Saturday evening festivities. Those staying
up until the wee hours of the morning may have been lucky enough to catch a
glimpse of the singing and dancing presented by some of the BMCB students! The
retreat came to a close on Sunday morning with a few more research talks. Following
lunch, attendees packed up and headed back to Tucson. All in all the weather
was great, everyone seemed to enjoy themselves, and it was a great opportunity
to learn more about the research that is going on in the MCB and Biochem departments.
