About Tucson:

Tucson (TOO-sahn) is located is southern Arizona, approximately an hours drive from Mexico. In this borderland region, the cultures of Mexico and the United States blend. The Tucson area is home to approximately 1 million residents. Tucson is situated in the Sonoran desert, a visually striking landscape of cactus forests, rolling hills, and towering mountains.

The weather is generally mild, offering opportunities for many fun outdoor activities, though summers are quite hot. Tucson boasts magnificent golf courses that are ranked among the world's best. Bird watching is another popular activity, with Tucson listed as among the five best places in the US for bird watching. Opportunities for biking, hiking, and rock climbing are also also abundant.

In July the summer monsoon rains begin. During this season, the generally clear skies may cloud over in the afternoon, which can cool the temperature, but increase the relative humidity. These rain clouds can result in exciting thunder and lightning storms and huge quantities of rain may fall in a very short time. These rains trigger the appearance of many animals, and often result in a beautiful wildflower show.
