Free Energy Problem #1

1.  If the equilibrium concentrations of ATP = 1x10-7 M, ADP = 0.165 M and Pi = 0.1 M, what is the equilibrium constant and DGo' for the hydrolysis of ATP at 37oC?

  • Use the data to calculate Keq
  • wpe11C.gif (1227 bytes)
  •  wpe11D.gif (1400 bytes)
  • Keq = 1.65 x 105 M (note units!)

  • Use the value of  Keq to calculate DGo'
    • DGo' = -RTln Keq
    • DGo'= - 8.314x10-3kJ/K•mol x 310K x ln (1.65 x 105)
    • DGo' = -31 kJ/mol.
