Introduction - This script shows the conformational change, "induced fit", that occurs in phosphoglycerate kinase when both substrates, ADP and bisphosphoglycerate bind to the enzyme. This is phosphoglycerate kinase with ADP (BLUE) and bisphosphoglycerate (GREEN) bound in the active site.
Note that they are close enough for phosphoryl group transfer.



Binding of both substrates induces a conformational change that brings the two reactants close enough to each
other for reaction to take place. The magnitude of the conformational change is illustrated by the movement of the active site Arg from its position in the free enzyme (WHITE) to its position when ADP and bisphosphoglycerate are bound (ORANGE).
