Introduction - This script shows the binding of 2,3 bisphosphoglycerate
(bpg) to a half deoxygenated Human hemoglobin. (Determine which chains
are oxygenated and their relationship to bound bpg. (Based on the
structure determined by Richard and Mauguen (1993) J. Mol. Biol.
233, 270-274.

BPG is bound between the beta
chains of Hb, far removed from the two alpha-chains.
Note, that both the N- and C- termini of both beta-chains
lie in close proximity to BPG.

This is another illustration of the bound BPG, especially
the direct interaction of the ligand with the beta-chains. Notice
how BPG is bound at the outer surface the two chains.

Ionic interactions of BPG with His and Lys side
chains of the beta-chains stabilizes
binding.
