Configuring Netscape 4.x and Internet Explorer
for loading PDB files directly into RasMol:

Note: This works on the PC, but I haven't figured out how to do it on the Mac. If you figure out how to do so, let me know (jlittle@u.arizona.edu)!

Netscape

I don't know if the following will work on all versions of Netscape. It works on 4.0, 4.6 and 4.75 .

1. Click on Edit
2. Click on Preferences
3. At the left under Navigator is "Applications"--click on it
4. Click on New Type
5. Under "File extension" type "pdb"
6. Under "Mime type" type "chemical/x-pdb"
7. Under "Application" type the name of the program, including its path, such as "c:\RASWIN\rw32b2a.exe", or use the Browse button to find the program.
8. Click on OK
9. Click on OK

It should work. If it doesn't, let me know (jlittle@u.arizona.edu).

Internet Explorer

I don't know if the following will work on all versions of Internet Explorer; it works on version 5.0 . Let me know if it works for you.

1. Download a PDB file to your computer.
2. Using "My computer" or "Windows explorer", find the file and double-click on it.
3. Windows will ask you which Program you want to use to open the file.
4. Click on "Other", then find your RasMol program. Click on it, click on "Open", and then on OK.
5. The next time you click on a PDB file, IE will offer you the choice of opening it in RasMol, or saving it to disk.
