Help! I need advising. Who is my advisor?

Advising for Majors and Minors I Advisor and Student Responsibilities I Who is my advisor?
Bachelor Degree Requirements I Four-Year Plan I FAQs I On Campus Resources

All students in Biochemistry see Rachel Hughes as their general academic advisor.  Rachel assigns faculty advisors.

The Academic Advisor, Rachel, advises students on:

  • General education and pre-major coursework
  • Schedule/course planning
  • Transfer evaluations, change or add majors and minors
  • First and final stop for senior degree check
  • Processing of all course substitutions and waives on computer once approved.
  • Probation advising
  • Interpretation and advise of policy and procedure for drop deadlines.
  • During priority registration Rachel will register students in appointments for biochemistry courses.  (Typically Biochemistry courses which require department registration are handled by Olivia Mendoza, but Rachel can also, if part of an advising appointment.)

Faculty advisors provide career/grad school advising, advise on independent study options, major coursework and perform evaluation of biochemistry transfer coursework.  Students must meet with their faculty advisor after meeting with Rachel to process their senior degree check.

See Rachel for signatures on the following forms:

  • Financial Aid Appeal
  • Academic Renewal

  • Pre-approval of transfer credit for pre-major and general education coursework
  • Leave of absence
  • Change of schedule over 19 units
Olivia A. Mendoza, program coordinator, processes the Senior Thesis proposals, directed research and independent forms.  She is the primary person to see about registering for Biochemistry courses that require departmental registration
