Upload all required information to your online application. Photocopies of test scores and transcripts are acceptable; official copies will be required should you be admitted to the program.
A. Three letters of recommendation from people who are familiar with your work (one of these letters should be from your research advisor, if applicable). Remember to give your letter writers plenty of notice.
B. Official transcripts of all college and university work. We require a GPA of at least 3.00 for admission to the PhD program. The average of admitted students is approximately 3.50.
C. Official GRE results (General exam is required and a subject exam is recommended but not mandatory). For the GRE, the verbal and quantitative scores added together should total approximately 1200. The average verbal score should be 500-510, and the average quantitative score should be 690-700. The GRE is good for five years.
D: For international applicants whose native language is not English, the Graduate College requires a minimum TOEFL score for admission: 600 for the Paper-Based Test (PBT); 250 for the Computer-Based Test (CBT); and 90 for the Internet-Based Test (IBT). International students intent on receiving financial aid must be aware that Graduate Teaching Assistants carry on a variety of teaching assignments and evidence of good English speaking skills is important. International students applying for Graduate Teaching Assistant positions must have (i) a minimum score on the TOEFL (scores described above) and (ii) a minimum score of 50 for the TSE. The TOEFL is good for two years.
The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) examination is now being accepted by the UA Graduate College in lieu of the TOEFL. The minimum IELTS score requirement for admissions consideration is a score of 7, with a score of no less than 6 on any individual band or module. In the case of both the TOEFL and the IELTS, test scores must be dated within two years of the date of enrollment.
