Welcome to the Horton Research Group

Structural Biology

We are interested in understanding how DNA binding proteins perform their various functions including sequence recognition, DNA cleavage, methylation, unwinding, and related functions. DNA binding proteins are important in biology in the manipulation of DNA and in transcription of genes. DNA repair is important in maintaining genetic integrity and preventing diseases such as cancer. We are also interested in the evolution of function in DNA binding proteins and in the evolution of DNA repair pathways in eukaryotes.

Postdoctoral Positions available

Applications are invited for several postdoctoral positions starting immediatly in the Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biophysics at the University of Arizona in Tucson. The initial appointment will be for one year with reappointment for a second year by mutual agreement.
    Research interests focus on

  • Structure-Function Studies of DNA repair proteins
  • Structure-Function Studies of Replication Proteins from Eukaryotic Viruses
  • Modulation of DNA Sequence Specificity by Small Molecules
  • Ideal candidates would have a strong background in protein purification, biochemical characterization, and x-ray crystallography.

Applicants should submit inquiries or applications (a current CV with a publication list, description of research experience and interests, and names of three references) by email: nhorton@u.arizona.edu
