SELECTION CRITERIA:

 

· Underrepresented status: undergraduate students who can demonstrate that the group to which they belong is considered underrepresented in biomedical research

· Citizenship: citizen or non-citizen national of the United States or lawfully admitted for permanent residence; those with foreign student status lacking permanent residence status cannot be considered

· Research Interest: express a strong interest in considering a biomedical research career that includes earning a Ph.D. degree

· Commitment: spend two years (two summers and four UA semesters) in the program (exceptions will be considered but requires prior research experience)

· Majors: Biochemistry & Molecular Biophysics, Biomedical Engineering, Chemistry, Ecology & Evolutionary Biology, Biology, Mathematics, Microbiology, Molecular & Cellular Biology, Nutritional Sciences, Physiology (or premajor), Psychology, or Speech. Language & Hearing Science (exceptions will be considered but must be defended in the application)

· Credits completed: at least 56 units prior to start of training June 1

· GPA: overall and a math/science GPA of at least 3.0 for courses taken at a 4-year institution

· Reference: provide the name of 1 or 2 professional (not family, friends, or students) contacts including your relationship to them

· Interview: candidates who pass the initial screening will interview with members of the MARC advisory committee
