With over a year in the planning, undergraduate students from the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry have organized the Biological, Engineering, and Chemical Undergraduate Research (BECUR) Conference which will become the first southwest regional meeting that will allow undergraduates to present their findings on a professional level at the UA with official endorsement by the ASBMB and the ACS. Students from throughout the southwest have been invited, including schools from Colorado, Utah, Nevada, New Mexico, California, and, of course, Arizona. Additionally, exceptional high school students who have worked in university-level laboratories have been invited to participate. The BECUR Conference, will serve to unite undergraduates from various disciplines not just to encourage an environment of shared knowledge but to also commend these individuals for their outstanding efforts and contributions.
Scheduled for February 26th and 27th, 2010, the BECUR Conference will feature a poster presentation session and oral presentations. Over $5,000 worth of scholarships, grants, and awards will be given out to exceptional posters and presenters and there is no fee to the student participants! This conference will serve as an excellent platform to network with academic and industry leaders, as well as give practice to undergraduates before participating in national conferences.
