My research attempts to elucidate the factors that influence the generation and maintenance of variation in bacterial genomes.

My research focuses on using comparative approaches to study genome evolution in bacteria. Specifically, I am interested in the variation of gene content between closely related organisms and the evolution of non-coding regions.

I seek to better understand evolutionary processes that facilitate lifestyle shifts in bacteria. Currently I study genome and ncRNA evolution that occur when a bacterium moves from a free-living to a host-associated niche.
