Hardware / Instruments
Our in-house data collection instrument is a Rigaku R-Axis IV++ imaging plate system mounted on a Rigaku RU-H3R rotating anode generation with Max-Flux confocal optics and an Oxford Cryosystems liquid nitrogen cold stream device. A modified 4DX crystal microspectrometer with a Spectral Instruments CCD array detector and cryostream cooling is available. Computational facilities include Linux and SGI computers equipped with stereographics capabilities. We have active, highly rated proposals at SSRL and APS and carry out synchrotron data collections either remotely or in person ~6 times per year.
A variety of screens and conditions are available at MCC to facilitate the crystallization of new proteins and their complexes. Crystallization at anaerobic conditions is also available. Promising conditions obtained after initial screening are further refined to obtain well-diffracting crystals suitable for structural studies.
